O.K. we’re in the home stretch! Can we accomplish a White Christmas? I say there is some hope.
Generally, there is enough cold air in supply between now and the 25th in the Ozarks for snowfall. The upper air pattern will migrate from a pattern of northwesterly flow aloft to perhaps a more of a southwesterly flow toward Christmas.
In the northwest flow there are two disturbances of interest. The first late Friday and the second late Sunday/early Monday.
Friday’s system is showing some signs of “digging” or intensifying as it whips through. This has a chance of producing some flurries or light snow late Friday in its wake.
The second northwest flow system looks focused but more to our north and northeast late Sunday and Monday.
Each of these reinforces the cold air in the Ozarks…
The hope for meaningful snow lies in whatever may develop to our southwest Wednesday and Thursday.
I will be talking more about this tonight on KOLR at 5, 6 & 10 and KSFX News @ Nine. Then, join me live on the web for “Upstream” at 11 pm, a live internet show with a chat room where I can show you in-depth what is coming in ”upstream” :
“Upstream” from Ceaseless Wind.
The Springfield National Weather Service has put up an excellent page reviewing the history of white Christmas’ in the Springfield.
